Up next, is our senior undergrad, Will! Will was the first undergraduate researcher to join the Sydlik Group, and consequently is getting ready to submit his first paper as he applies for graduate school.
Will is a senior in Chemistry here at Carnegie Mellon. In the group, his project focused on the development of a curriculum for a graduate course that will investigate the mechanical properties of homopolymers, block copolymers, and random copolymers. Will is a member of the Carnegie Mellon Joint Funding Committee, All-Greek Community Standards Board, and Delta Tau Delta. Will also volunteers for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, United Way, and Meals on Wheels. In his free time, Will enjoys playing golf, chess, and hanging out with friends.

Group Picture, Fall 2015
Hello world! Here's our first official picture as the Sydlik Group at Carnegie Mellon. Taken Prof. Sydlik's first day of classes as a professor!

Dr. Brian Holt
Today, we'll have the first of our posts introducing group members. Up first, is postdoc extraordinaire, Brian Holt! Brian joined the Sydlik Group in July of 2015 and has been an essential member of the team ever since. Brian is a wealth of information, always willing to help, and an all around nice guy.
Dr. Holt received his PhD in Biomedical Engineering from CMU
studying sub-cellular localization and processing of single wall carbon
nanotubes. After switching to Materials Science and Engineering but remaining in
his PhD group for a brief stint as a postdoc, he then joined The Sydlik Group
in the Department of Chemistry. His biomedical engineering background and
expertise in carbon nanotube/cell interaction will complement the group’s
expertise in materials and polymer chemistry as he works on the project to
develop osteomimetic graphene composite scaffolds for bone regeneration.

ACS Colloids Symposium
This week the Sydlik Group is attending our first conference! The ACS Colloids and Surface Science Symposium is being hosted at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, so we didn't have to travel far. ;) Annie and Zoe will be presenting a poster and Prof Sydlik will be giving a talk on the biocompatibility of our osteomimetic graphene materials for bone regeneration.

Group Picture (May 2015)
In preparation for some upcoming talks, we took our very first group picture! Annie says we have to take a new one next week when we're better dressed.
